In a wide angle shot, dolled up like a Rajput queen she’s seen watching Deepika’s dance. The scene generated lot of curiosity with Bollywood buffs doing the guess work on who the mystery girl would be.The character is none other than Raja Ratan Singh’s (Shahid Kapoor) first wife Nagmati. The role is essayed by Anupriya Goenka. The Bollywood actress who’s worked in films like Daddy, Dishoom, Bobby Jasoos once made headlines for playing a lesbian role in Myntra’s controversial ad that went viral.Elated with the form of attention she’s received over her blink-and-miss shot in the Ghoomer track, Anupriya says, “I am overjoyed that people are already talking about my character and that too after seeing such a small shot. Frankly, I don’t know about my screen space in the film, but yes I did shoot for many days for the project.”For the Ghoomer track, Anupriya shot for nine days. She says, “All I had to do was to sit and watch Deepika dancing. Ghoomer is performed by the newlywed women. I am the first wife. Here it is Padmavati who’s the new one, and so she performs the dance for the king.” She further adds, “It was tough for me to just sit and stare amidst the beautiful dancers performing on the track. I did feel like dancing with them but at the same time I was scared of my ghagra. It was heavy and I was literally wrapped in jewelry. I didn’t want to trip on the ghagra and rip my jewellery (laughs). So thank god that I had to play just a spectator’s role. Deepika went through thorough training and I was surprised that she was getting everything right in just one take!”To fit into the role of Rajput queen Nagmati, Anupriya had to undergo diction classes to get her tonality and pronunciation right. “I also saw Mughal-e-Azam to get the nuances of a maharani right. I also saw Bajirao Mastani to study Sanjay sir’s (Leela Bhansali) vision. I also read articles to understand the character of Nagmati.”Talking about the equation she shared with her on-screen husband Shahid Kapoor and co-actress Deepika, Anurpiya says, “Shahid is extremely chilled out on sets. He sings songs, cracks jokes and makes everyone laugh. He once got his daughter (Misha) who was just a few months old, on the set. Everybody was playing with her. Deepika too is extremely sweet. I met her for the first time on the sets of Padmavati. She was rehearsing for the Ghoomer song while I had come for the look test. She looked at me while I tried my outfits and did the test. She smiled at me and I felt the positive vibes.”The month of December is like a double bonanza for the actress. Post Padmavati which releases on Dec 1, Anupriya will be all set for the release of her next big outing which is Tiger Zinda Hai starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif that releases on Dec 22.
