Group Therapy has four main stages that
have changed throughout the years. This therapy has four stages the first one of
group therapy it becomes the pre-group stage, which consists of all factors
involving the formation of a group.  The
first stage of group therapy is very important and with careful planning comes laying
down a solid foundation for any group, including the design and proposal of a
group, attracting members, selecting members, and the orientation process. I
feel that this stage of development is important to consider these certain considerations
when in the preliminary phase of group therapy which cam help the group to
becoming very productive.

In the Initial stage of a group, which in
this time of orientation and exploration; and many of the members tend to be present
themselves to be socially acceptable. This stage comes from members who are
tentative because they are discovering and testing the limits and boundaries
that some members will feel if they will be accepted or not.  Group therapy requires its members to have
certain expectations, concerns and or anxieties they may have while attending
group therapy.

“The next stage of development of group
therapy is the transition stage which the group leader’s task is to help
members begin working on the concerns that bought them to group therapy (Corey,
2013).” While in this stage it requires you to understand how this group works
which allows the members to monitor their thoughts, feelings, reactions, and
actions and to learn how to express them verbally while being in group therapy.
The leaders can then help you recognize and accept their fear, defensiveness,
and help them with their anxieties and any reluctance they may experience along
the way. Following this stage comes the next stage is group therapy, which is
the working stage the group that takes on the many new challenges; deeper
levels of trust, which can be achieved, and many new conflicts emerge as the
group evolves throughout this process of therapy.

this stage of group therapy many members begin to hold back and be more
reluctant to take risks and some groups may never reach this stage of group therapy.  Lastly, in the final stage of therapy is
where group members are able to further identify what was learned and what will
be learned and how members can use this in their daily living and life situations
that they may come across.  The main
thing of this group stage is to focus on the conceptualization and bringing
closure to the group experience.

Throughout World War II, US military
psychiatrists tried to deal with many of these consequences while contributing
to the military goal of preserving manpower and syndromes by implementing
screening programs to detect factors that can predispose or offer the help to individuals
with mental disorders that succumbed to acute-war related syndromes and
long-term psychiatric disability (World War II, 2018)”.

I think this time the effects of
treatment near the front lines are unclear, and the results of treatment for
chronic postwar syndromes are mixed. This is always a hard time during the 20th
Century and the treatment and prevention groups have implemented screening
programs, providing early intervention strategies for acute-war related
syndromes. With therapy, it makes it easier for soldiers to come home.  This allows for soldiers to have any easier
route home as well.  For example, the most
significant contribution to World War II is the military psychiatry, which is the
main reason for the recognition of small combat groups and or group
identification and or leadership.  Another example of this would be that many of
the groups received treatment strategies for PTSD, which includes the use of
antidepressant medications and individual and group psychotherapies. This can
and always will be helpful with soldiers, and some other patients find it hard
to find a group that they belong to or finding a group for them to overcome
(Pols, 2007).” The last and final example would be that soldiers think that groups
will be a mortifying invasion of their privacy, and fear that their
difficulties will be publicized or that the group will reproduce a harsh family

One major impact of group therapy on
treatment of substance use disorders and therapy and family therapy becomes a
huge part of an effective substance abuse and mental health treatment.  “Group therapy is aimed at creating symptom
reduction in recovery in two or more people (Patterson, 2018).”

With substance use comes group therapy as
an option, which can be effective as individual sessions with a trained leader
in sessions. Another option of therapy can be group sessions, which contain
outpatient recovery programs such as Hospital-based and impatient programs and
or other forms of therapy such as individual therapy.

One last and final thing of group therapy
requires emotional stability, treatment preferences, unique needs and the stages
in recovery. With substance use disorder comes with 5 groups that members can
join such as support groups, interpersonal process groups with wide range of opportunities.
Substance use will be the support that the members need and group leaders provide
information and discussion experiences that help resolve their challenges so
that each member can join either group or multiple groups.  Lastly, therapist will always demonstrate the
desire of level of communication, respectful interactions and positive reinforcement
for members.  In conclusion I feel that
group therapy has changed throughout the years and will always be helpful to
others and addicts. I think that group therapy comes with many advantages that require
this type of therapy to be very successful.
