INTRODUCTION:As the modern world continues to develop at an exponential rate, spiritual practices such as mindfulness and meditation have found their place within many aspects of our society. From further implementation in professional health fields, development of professional skills in adolescence, and the overall growth of social skills within our society, meditation has begun to merge into the mainstream of our current society. By analyzing the impacts of meditation, we can understand that the use of its practice must be supported in all aspects to encourage spiritual growth influencing the world around us. Understanding this, further research has been completed to understand the impacts of the modern world on meditation, as well as the impacts meditation has made on the world around us.Body Paragraph 1: Innovations of today allowing for meditation growthThrough innovations of our modern society, we’ve been able to implement and spread traditional practices such as mediation into mainstream culture. With uses of technologies such as virtual reality (VR) becoming accessible on a consumer level, even practices such as mindfulness can be adapted in a more modern aspect to gain appeal. In a recent project, researchers had mindfulness experts use a “virtual reality mindfulness” exercise to test its ability to be both useful and acceptable as an assistant to meditation. This project shows high credibility with a recent release, alongside connections with facilities such as Virtual Reality Research Centers and Behavioral Health and Therapy Clinics. The research focuses on implementing virtual reality into mindfulness practice, both increasing the effect of meditation alongside reaching a broader audience. Through having participants with backgrounds in mindfulness try a meditation exercise with virtual reality, a majority of experts found positive effects and acceptance of VR in mindfulness practice. With society becoming more accepting of alternative methods to practice traditional ideals, meditation can become implemented into everyday life much easier.Body Paragraph 2: Adolescent benefits of meditation/implementation of mindfulness in schoolsOne of the most significant aspects of our current society is the amount of support given to adolescents, especially in schooling systems. Programs implementing mindfulness into curriculum have begun to show up more frequently within schools, allowing for a more mainstream use of meditation practice for youth. One research paper focuses on analyzing results of such programs to find possible benefits outside of the classroom. This article focusing on the factors of meditation and mindfulness practices in school shows reliable analysis of available prior information due to both it’s recent release and with its authors affiliating with institutions such as Pennsylvania State University. The studies within this research focus on implementation within different communities, focusing on the benefits in which mindfulness practices allow for skills such as self-regulation in teens within crime-ridden communities, alongside the assistance in countering stressors. By practicing mindfulness within schools, we can teach adolescents real life skills to assist them in the outside world. Body Paragraph 3:Medicinal use of meditationAs meditation has a high effect on one’s mental state, the use of meditation in medicinal fields allows for a number of benefits that show potential for future implementation. A discussion found focusing on the use of meditation within mental health treatment displays benefits of implementation through prior examples of use. Through both the credible publication source and recent release we can find a reliable discussion on the implementation of meditation practices into health care programs and further research. This reveals how the effect of meditation is great enough to be a part of medical acceptance, allowing for overprescription to decrease alongside the overall cost of healthcare lowering through spiritual practice. Through prior instances of implementing meditation, we can see a potential form of treatment with no visible downside. By allowing the implementation of meditation practices into mental health, we can allow for an alternative form of treatment that shows results.Body Paragraph 4:Use of meditation in rehabilitation As meditation has a strong connection with spiritual benefit, the use of similar practices can show true benefit in fields such as rehabilitation. Focusing on the effect of meditation on individuals struggling with addiction, a recent article demonstrates the possible benefits of using mindfulness to treat psychological disorders. This article was written by three professors within Psychology Departments throughout the country and has been published in 2016, making the source credible for its reliability. By using mindfulness training in individuals showing symptoms of addiction as well as individuals with no addiction, researchers found an improvement in factors such as emotional regulation and self-control. From this, we can determine that mindfulness practice can become an effective part of addiction treatment. Meditation allows for spiritual development, but also can promote growth in real world skills used outside the practice itself. By implementing a more spiritual aspect of rehabilitation in addition to traditional rehab program, we can insure the long-term development of skills that allow for better results.Body Paragraph 5:Science of meditation/acceptance of meditation into scientific methodWith our modern society allowing for a vast number of perspectives, backgrounds, and beliefs to be regarded we can see the acceptance of meditation and similar spirituality into science, finding the truth behind belief. Through a dialogue with the Dalai Lama about the use of meditation in healing, scientific connections have been created to justify the claims made about his practice. Through a number of reliable authors and contributors, this text reveals a credible connection to scientific fact and the use of meditation in the medical field. The piece goes through a number of benefits to medical fields with meditation, from the use of mindfulness exercises and meditation in the CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) field to treat disorders such as depression to the benefits of the physique with meditation benefits allowing for a healthier body. From this, we can see that meditation isn’t simply a placebo that encourages the mind and body to heal; the use of meditation and mindfulness create a response from the self that encourages physical healing.Body Paragraph 6:Negative effects of meditationWhile meditation can be extremely beneficial to develop one’s spiritual development and professional skills, precautions in the practice must be made to ensure medication is used properly. A survey taken last year reveals the possible harm caused by meditation. This recently published paper focus on an online survey regarding meditation and any appearance of “UEs” or unwanted effects to illustrate any presence of negative effects to meditation or mindfulness practice. Through this survey, 25% of the surveyed population found unwanted effects, with a high correlation to practices that required more attention and effort. Regardless, this has been the first study of its kind and requires additional research. Due to the high level of focus required in some meditation practices, such mental strain can develop negative repercussions without proper training. However, through proper meditation training these negative effects can be fully avoided with a sense of caution. Conclusion:Through the development of our modern society, meditation has been able to thrive in a way more widespread than before; these aspects of growth have been seen globally with a major acceptance of meditation practice. By allowing meditation to grow in our modern world, we can insure the further development of all aspects of our society.
