Since the start of the Global Age, countries in Europe have been world powers. They are some of the first to explore and colonize many different continents. There are many reasons why Europe was able to take over the Natives in America with so little force. Since Europe is located near to the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, they could travel quickly on ships to many colonizable places. Countries in Europe became world powers because of their location, their advantage over the Natives in America, and their exploration. Europe’s location gave them easy access to seas, oceans, and other continents. It’s location made it easy for Europeans to trade far away, colonize other continents, and explore across the Atlantic Ocean. Countries would sent out ships to trade across the Mediterranean Sea to get to Africa and around the Horn of Africa to get to Asia and the Middle East. Christopher Columbus had a new idea, that seemed so crazy it just might work. He wanted to sail across the Atlantic Ocean in hopes of getting to Asia. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain supported him and paid for his voyage. Their three ships arrived at America in 1492, which gave the Europeans and advantage: they could easily colonize the continent near to them. After Columbus “discovered” America, Spain and other European countries sent out men to search the new land and to meet/conquer the Natives. Instead, they ended up killing many people, and eventually taking over the majority of the continent. Europe’s location made it easy for them to trade far away, colonize other continents, and explore across the Atlantic Ocean. When the Europeans came to America, they quickly decimated the Native population. The Spaniards came to South America in 1492 and they brought many diseases along with them. The Native American population dropped by approximately 90% because of diseases such as smallpox, measles, and flu. In addition to the accumulative deaths from diseases, there were also many deaths in the Native population from war and massacres that were led by Europeans. The Americans didn’t have guns or gunpowder and had never seen it before. When the Europeans used guns against them, the Natives’ bows, arrows, and spears didn’t stand a chance. Many people who were lucky enough to live through the diseases, were killed by European weapons. Since the Native population had gone down by such great numbers, Europeans were sent to America to start colonies. They took over the land that civilizations and tribes had lived on for thousands of years. Countries in Europe became world powers because they easily conquered the Native people of the Americas, and colonized the land there.Throughout the Age of Exploration, Europeans would explore many places in the New World. One of the main reasons that people would come to America is religion. People would go to teach the Natives about Christianity. Other people would come to America to practice their religion without persecution. When people came to America to spread Christianity, they were forceful and made the Natives conform to their way of life. In doing this, much of the Native culture was lost. European countries were already so wealthy, that they were able to pay explorers to travel around the world and trade with people on other continents. People in Europe wanted to learn more about the world. Even though some people thought the Earth was flat, they learned that it was round because of Christopher Columbus’ exploration. Curiosity pushed Europeans to explore, and find the answers to their questions. Countries in Europe explored the New World extensively, and it helped to make them world powers in that time. Countries in Europe became world powers because of their location, their advantage over the Natives in America, and their exploration. The Age of Exploration changed many things in both the New and Old Worlds. Trade became even more prevalent because new crops, animals, and natural resources were discovered in the New World. But more importantly Europeans and Native Americans exchanged culture, ideas, and religion. From colonizing and exploring in the Americas, to its location near the Atlantic Ocean, countries Europe had many advances in becoming world powers. Since the start of the Global Age, countries in Europe have been world powers.
