We all have moments in our life that defines who we are. Macbeth is an example of a tragic hero. Macbeth’s arrogant pride, character traits, determination and tragic flaw make him a tragic hero. Macbeth’s arrogant pride makes him a tragic hero. After the witches tell him that he can’t be defeated until Birnam forest comes to Dunsinane, Macbeth believes that no one will defeat him, and he stops fearing anyone taking his place as king. “I will not be afraid of death and bare, Til Birnam forest come to Dunsinane.” (Act ?, Scene 3, line 68). This quote shows how Macbeth believed that he was never going to be defeated and makes him arrogant which makes him a tragic hero. More importantly, Macbeth is a tragic hero because of his character traits. Macbeth is the best fighter and before he heard the witches prophecies he was a very honourable man. The service and the loyalty I owe, In doing it, pays itself. Your highness’ part, Is to receive our duties: and our duties Are to your throne and stale, children and servants; Which do but they should, by doing everything, Safe toward your love and honour. (Act 1, Scene 4, line 25-30)This quote shows shows how loyal Macbeth was to the king. This makes Macbeth a tragic hero because Macbeth changes from respecting and loving the king to wanting to take his place and kill him. Macbeth is a tragic hero due to his determination. Once Macbeth finds out he has a chance of becoming king and even though he knows if someone finds out he will be killed, he kills king Duncan. Even after Macbeth knows that Macduff is going to defeat him he still tries and fights him. I will not yield, To kiss the ground before young Malcolm’s feet And to be baited with the rabble’s curse Through Birnam wood be come to Dunsinane, And thou oppos’d, being of no woman born, Yet I will try the last. Before my body I will throw my warlike shield. Lay on, Macduff; And damn’d be him that first cries “Hold enough’.”This shows Macbeth as a tragic hero because when Macbeth realizes that Macduff was gonna defeat him he already knew that he was gonna die, but fought anyway. Macbeth also shows determination when he killed his friend Banquo and Macduff’s family because he thought that they would get in his way of being king.
